Changing Wisdoms from Loss to Renewal and Senior Isolation to Cultural Engagement
There are two projects below:
Loss to Renewal began from my own grief after the loss of my wife, and my discovery while engaging in dating sites for seniors of how unnecessarily devastating the suffering from loss is to many lives. It overlaps with how our culture loses the wisdoms of its elders through.
Senior Isolation to Cultural Engagement similarly
Loss to Renewal
Senior Isolation to Cultural Engagement
The ancients revered their elders while we retire them. The form below aims to capture transformatitve learning from seniors.
Changing Wisdoms Story Survey
Torah Portion Previews
Temple Adas Shalom, Havre de Grace, MD
The Torah portion previews below put together ideas from two different perspectives: modes of practice research and Reform rabbinical expertise.
Our bodies and environments seemed incomprehensibly complex until we discovered cells and atoms. To many, our history and personal experience still seem so. But using modes of practice as a unit analogous to cells and atoms opens possibilities for understanding that we can barely imagine without them.
From 2009-2013 Dr. David Kirk Dirlam, conducted developmental interviews of all the Rabbinical faculty of our Reform seminary, Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion. Together they used modes of practice to describe the development of their expertise. The result provides a microscope for our tradition like no other. It laid the changing wisdoms of Reform Judaism in table. (see Concepts and Definitions for the Rabbinical Praxosystem or for more on that project see www.changingwisdoms.net/research).
The 200-word previews listed below are designed to encourage weekly participation at Temple Adas Shalom. David kirk Dirlam wrote the previews and revised them based on comments from Rabbi Michael N. Stevens. The dates are Friday nights beginning July 2022 and ending June 2023. The first paragraphs are summaries, the second applies ideas from the Rabbinical Rubrics and a principle relating to modes of practice. Temple Adas Shalom emails the previews to its members.

Changing Wisdoms with Reform Judaism
It laid the changing wisdoms of Reform Judaism on the table. Since July, snippets from their work have found a place in the second paragraph of our Temple’s Torah Portion Previews.
Join David Dirlam for three 90-minute discussions this year, each held on Sundays at 12:30 PM. Attend in person at the TAS Library or online using Zoom. They will focus on the changing wisdoms first, of the Torah (March 12), next, of American Jewish Thought Since 1934 (June 25), and finally, of our personal experience (October 15).

Capturing Wisdoms Projects
Writing to enhance community. All our writing can be found here and in our group's folders at the Fuquay-Varina Community Library and the Fuquay-Varina History Museum. The Capturing Wisdoms Writers have learned developmental interviewing as described in the Capturing Wisdoms Course. We interview people related to life near our writers' homes (we began in Fuquay-Varina, NC) and collaboratively edit our postings. Our goal is for our stories to document the development of individuals, local communities, and the reciprocal influences both of others on them and them on others. Our projects and helpful materials are included at the links above. Current Capturing Wisdoms Writers are Nancy King, Valerie Macon, and David Dirlam
